How to Get Rid of an Old Couch or Furniture in Lakewood, CO
Lakewood doesn't run its own trash collection, so getting rid of a couch is down to you rather than the city. Here are your real options for an old couch, a dresser or a mattress, and when it's easier to have me take it.
First, how Lakewood works
The City of Lakewood doesn't provide trash collection. Residents, or their landlord or HOA, arrange their own hauler, and the city's own advice for furniture is to donate it, ask your hauler, or use a junk removal company.
So the question is really whether your furniture still has some life in it. If it does, someone else can use it. If it doesn't, it needs hauling. Here's how each one works.
Sell it, give it away, or donate it
The city's own advice for furniture that can still be used is to list it on Facebook Marketplace or a local free group, or donate it to a second-hand store such as Arc Thrift, Goodwill or American Samaritan.
Check with the store before you load the car. What they will take depends on condition, and a stained or broken couch is usually a no.
Giving it away free is often the quickest route. Just be realistic about it: someone still has to get it out of your house and into their truck.
Your hauler, or a junk removal company
For furniture that can't be reused, the city's advice is your own trash hauler or a junk removal company, both for a fee. One thing not to do: the city is clear that dumping bulky items in alleys or on private property is illegal.
Ask your trash hauler what they offer for large items and what it costs. It can be the simplest option if you only have one piece and it is already at the curb.
Or have me take it. I pick up couches, recliners, dressers, desks and bed frames across Lakewood, and I can bring it out of a garage, basement or back yard. I price by how much space it takes in the trailer, and curbside usually costs less. A futon I picked up in South Lakewood was gone the same afternoon.

Mattresses are their own thing
The city lists SustainAbility and Spring Back Colorado as accepting mattresses for a fee, with pickup available. If you are clearing a mattress along with other furniture, it is often easier to have it all go in one trip.
We'll round it up
Send a photo of the couch, the dresser or the whole room. I'll come back with a price before I lift a thing.
Where this comes from: the City of Lakewood's guidance on hard to recycle materials and trash and recycling. Check with any store or service before you go, as what they accept can change.

Getting rid of it, the easy way
A photo tells me more than a guess. Show me the piece and where it is sitting, and mention stairs or a tight doorway.
- Curbside or inside. At the curb is usually a better price, but I can bring it out of the house too.
